The Woodland League, an organisation whose aim is “to restore the relationship between people and their woodlands”, has launched a campaign to stop movements on the sale of Coillte, which they claim is being led by a Swiss finance company that Bertie Ahern is chairman of.  The group claims that there “remains no official indication as to the status of the sale of Coillte… Almost all the components for a sale are in place”.  In a video posted by The Woodland League Bertie Ahern denies this possibility, while Eamon Gilmore expresses concern about the former Taoiseach’s role in the Swiss group.  The Woodland League sees access to woodlands as a right for current and future generations that could be lost if a sale goes ahead, expressing concern about the further privitisaiton of state resouces.  To find out more about the campaign check out their website.
